Canteen’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan Final Report

Canteen is proud to share the final report from our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), marking the next step in our reconciliation journey. Since beginning with our Reflect RAP in 2020, we’ve deepened our commitment to advancing reconciliation and fostering culturally responsive, safe spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families/kin impacted by cancer.

Farewell to Peter Orchard: A Legacy of Leadership at Canteen

After 13 years of dedicated service, Canteen’s CEO Peter Orchard has announced he will step down in July 2025. On behalf of the Board, I want to express our deep gratitude for his unwavering commitment to young Australians impacted by cancer. Under his leadership, Canteen has grown into an industry-leading organisation, expanding its reach and impact in profound ways.

Leyla’s Story

At Canteen, we’re privileged to support and share the real-life experiences of young people facing cancer. Their stories illustrate the resilience of our young people when cancer turns their world upside down, and – on the flipside - how the support, connection, and care they receive at Canteen can turn difficult experiences into opportunities for growth and recovery.

Connecting with Culture, Country and Community on a Canteen Program

Read about the Canteen and Red Earth Deerubbin (Hawkesbury) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Immersion Program

Canteen and Red Earth recently collaborated to facilitate a cultural immersion where a group of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people were invited to spend time on the beautiful Deerubbin (Hawkesbury River) in Dharug Country. Over two wonderful days they learned about and connected with Country, guided by First Nations Culture Facilitator, Uncle Graham.
